தேசியக்கல்விக்கொள்கை மற்றும் நீட் தேர்வை ரத்து செய்ய வலியுறுத்தி மத்திய அரசு அலுலவங்கள் செயல்படக்கூடிய சாஸ்திரிபவனை இந்திய மாணவர் சங்கத்தினர் முற்றுகையிட்டு முழக்கங்கள் எழுப்பினர். போராட்டத்தில் நீட் தேர்வை ரத்து செய்ய ஆளுநர் உடனடியாக நடவடிக்கை எடுக்க வேண்டும் என கோஷங்கள் எழுப்பினர்.
இதையடுத்து சாஸ்திரிபவன் வாயில் வைக்கப்பட்டிருந்த தடுப்புகளை தாண்டி உள்ளே நுழைய முயன்ற இளைஞர்களை காவல்துறையினர் தடுத்து நிறுத்தினர்.இதனால் காவல்துறையினருக்கு, இந்திய மாணவர் சங்கத்தினருக்கும் இடையே தள்ளுமுள்ளு ஏற்பட்டது. இதையடுத்து அவர்கள் கைது செய்யப்பட்டனர்.
