மழைநீர் அதிக அளவில் தேங்கி உள்ளதால் சுரங்கப் பாதைகளின் வழியே செல்வதை தவிர்க்கும்படி சென்னை மாநகராட்சி கேட்டுக் கொண்டுள்ளது.
இதுதொடர்பாக சென்னை மாநகராட்சி வெளியிட்ட செய்திக்குறிப்பில், ''பெருநகர சென்னை மாநகராட்சிக்குட்பட்ட பகுதிகளில் 16 சுரங்கப்பாதைகள் மாநகராட்சியால் பராமரிக்கப்பட்டு வருகிறது. இரவு முதல் தற்போது வரை பெய்து வரும் கனமழையின் காரணமாக பெரும்பாலான சுரங்கப் பாதைகளில் அதிக அளவு மழை நீர் தேங்கி உள்ளது. இந்த சுரங்கபாதைகளில் அதிக குதிரைத்திறன் கொண்ட மோட்டார் பம்புகள் மூலம் நீர் தொடர்ந்து வெளியேற்றப்பட்டு வருகிறது.
தற்போது மழை நீர் தேக்கத்தின் காரணமாக மாணிக்கம் நகர் சுரங்கப்பாதை, வியாசர்பாடி நெடுஞ்சாலைத்துறை சுரங்கப்பாதை, கணேசபுரம் சுரங்கப்பாதை, ஆர்பிஐ சுரங்கப்பாதை. துரைசாமி சுரங்கப்பாதை, அரங்கநாதன் சுரங்கப்பாதை, மேட்லி சுரங்கப்பாதை மற்றும் ரங்கராஜபுரம் இருசக்கர வாகன சுரங்கப்பாதை ஆகிய இடங்களில் கனமழையின் காரணமாக நீர் அதிக அளவில் தேங்கி உள்ளது. பொதுமக்கள் பாதுகாப்பு கருதி இந்த சுரங்கப் பாதைகளில் போக்குவரத்து நிறுத்தப்பட்டுள்ளது. எனவே பொதுமக்கள் இந்த சுரங்கப் பாதைகளின் வழியே செல்வதை தவிர்க்கும்படி கேட்டுக் கொள்ளப்படுகிறார்கள்.
பருவ மழையை முன்னிட்டு பெருநகர சென்னை மாநகராட்சி ரிப்பன் மாளிகையில் 24x7 மணி நேர கட்டுப்பாட்டு அறை இயங்கி வருகிறது. பொதுமக்கள் 044.25819204, 044 25512206, 044-25613207,044-25819208 044-25303870 ஆகிய தொலைபேசி எண்களுக்கும், 1913 என்ற உதவி எண் மற்றும் 9445477205, 944502585, 3445025820, 3445025821 ஆகிய வாட்ஸ்அப் எண்ணிகளிலும் தொடர்பு கொண்டு மழைநீர் தேக்கம், விழுந்த மரக்கிளைகளை அகற்றுதல் போன்ற புகார்கள் குறித்தும், தங்களுக்கு தேவையான உதவிகள் குறித்தும் தெரிவிக்கலாம்'' என அதில் தெரிவிக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது.
The Chennai Corporation has asked to avoid going through the tunnels as there is a high level of rainwater.
In a press release issued by the Corporation of Chennai, “16 tunnels are being maintained by the Corporation in the areas under the Metropolitan Corporation of Chennai. Most of the tunnels have been flooded due to heavy rains that have been pouring from night till now. Water is constantly being pumped out of these tunnels by high horsepower motor pumps.
Currently due to rain water stagnation Manikkam Nagar Tunnel, Vyasarpadi Highway Tunnel, Ganesapuram Tunnel, RBI Tunnel. The Duraisamy Tunnel, Aranganathan Tunnel, Madley Tunnel and Rangarajapuram Two Wheeler Tunnel have been flooded due to heavy rains.
Traffic on these tunnels has been suspended for public safety reasons. The public is therefore asked to refrain from going through these tunnels.
