The Chennai Central Crime Branch has written to the Reserve Bank to simplify the procedures for immediate recovery of money lost from bank accounts in online fraud.

According to the police letter, cyber fraudsters have been involved in a series of robberies by obtaining ATM card numbers and bank details from the public in an innovative manner, which has led to an increase in complaints from those who have lost money. If a complaint is lodged within 24 hours of a recent theft of money, the bank management is informed that the robbers will take action to the extent that the money cannot be recovered and recover the money.

According to the Chennai Police, the investigation has revealed that the money stolen by the northern cyber robbers was paid online and received as cash through brokers by paying the electricity bill at the respective state electricity board. It has been reported that the bank management will freeze the looted money only after the first information report is lodged if the losers lodge a complaint and the delay will be used by the cyber robbers. Therefore, the letter requested the Reserve Bank to simplify the procedures so that the banks can take action to recover the money once the letter is signed and sent by the first police officer.
