52 வயதை பூர்த்தி செய்த பாண்டியன் ரயில்-Pandian train turning 52 years old

சென்னை - மதுரை மாநகரங்களை இணைக்கும் வகையில் தொடங்கப்பட்ட பாண்டியன் ரயில் சேவை இன்றுடன் 52 ஆண்டுகளை பூர்த்தி செய்துள்ளது

கடந்த 1969-ம் ஆண்டு அக்டோபர் 1-ம் தேதி மதுரை-சென்னை, சென்னை - மதுரை ஆகிய இரு வழித்தடங்களில் பாண்டியன் ரயில் சேவை தொடங்கப்பட்டது. இந்தியாவிலேயே முதன்முறையாக ரயிலுக்கு ஒரு மன்னர் பெயர் சூட்டப்பட்டதும் இந்த ரயிலுக்கு தான். மதுரையை ஆண்ட பாண்டிய மன்னனை பெருமைப்படுத்தும் வகையில் பாண்டியன் ரயில் என பெயரிடப்பட்டது.

தொடக்கக்காலத்தில் பாண்டியன் ரயில் மீட்டர்கேஜ் பாதையாக இருந்ததால் இயல்பான வேகத்திலேயே அந்த ரயில் இயக்கப்பட்டு வந்தது. இதேபோல் ஆரம்பத்தில் இரண்டு நீராவி எஞ்சின்களை கொண்டு, இயக்கப்பட்ட பாண்டியன் ரயிலில் இரண்டு முதல் வகுப்பு பெட்டிகளும், 8 முன்பதிவு ஸ்லீப்பர் பெட்டிகளும், பார்சல் பொருட்களுக்காக ஒரு பெட்டியும் மட்டுமே இருந்தன.

நாளடைவில் காலத்தின் தேவைக்கருதி படிப்படியாக தன்னை உருமாற்றி நவீனமாக்கி கொண்டது பாண்டியன் ரயில். 1985-ம் ஆண்டு தான் பாண்டியன் ரயிலில் குளிர்சாதன வசதி பெட்டிகள் இணைக்கப்பட்டன. ஒரு முதல் வகுப்பு ஏ.சி.பெட்டியும், தலா இரண்டு டூ-டைர், திரீ டைர் ஏசி பெட்டிகளும் சேர்க்கப்பட்டன.

1998-ம் ஆண்டு மீட்டர் கேஜ் பிராட் கேஜாக மாற்றியமைக்கப்பட்டதை அடுத்து 2002-ம் ஆண்டு பாண்டியன் அதிவிரைவு ரயிலாக(super fast express) மாற்றப்பட்டது.தென்மாவட்ட மக்களின் அதுவும் குறிப்பாக மதுரை மக்களின் உணர்வுகளோடு ஒன்றிணைந்த ஒரு ரயில் என்று பாண்டியனை கூறலாம். அந்தளவுக்கு பணி நிமித்தமாகவோ, விஷேசங்களில் கலந்துகொள்வதற்கோ மதுரையில் இருந்து யார் சென்னை வந்தாலும், அவர்களின் முதல் தேடுதல் பாண்டியன்ல இடமிருக்கா என்பது தான் இதன் சிறப்பு.

தற்போது கொரோனா பரவல் காரணமாக சிறப்பு விரைவு ரயில் என பாண்டியன் சிறப்பு ரயில் முன்பதிவு செய்த பயணிகள் மட்டும் பயணம் மேற்கொள்ள இயக்கப்பட்டு வருகிறது.

Today marks the 52nd anniversary of the Pandian train service between Chennai and Madurai

The Pandian train service was started on October 1, 1969 on both Madurai-Chennai and Chennai-Madurai routes. This is the first time in India that a train has been named after a king. It was named as Pandian Railway in honor of the Pandyan king who ruled Madurai.

In the early days, the Pandian train was a meter gauge track and operated at normal speeds. Similarly initially with two steam engines, the operated Pandian train had only two first class compartments, 8 booked sleeper compartments and one compartment for parcel items.

The Pandian Railway has gradually transformed and modernized itself with the needs of the times. It was not until 1985 that refrigerators were added to the Pandian train. A first class AC box and two two-tier and three-tier AC boxes each were added.

Following the conversion of the meter gauge into a broad gauge in 1998, the Pandian was converted into a super fast express train in 2002. Pandian can be said to be a train that blends with the sentiments of the people of the Southern District, especially the people of Madurai. For those who come to Chennai from Madurai for work or special occasions, their first search is for Pandian.
