தமிழகத்திலேயே அதிக அளவாக விழுப்புரம் மாவட்டத்தில் 28 மாற்றுத்திறனாளிகள் உள்ளாட்சித் தேர்தலில் போட்டியிடுகின்றனர்.
தமிழகத்தில் 9 மாவட்டங்களில் உள்ளாட்சித் தேர்தல் நடைபெறும் சூழலில், இத்தேர்தலில் மாற்றுத்திறனாளிகளும் போட்டியிட களமிறங்கியுள்ளனர். அதன்படி, 9 மாவட்டங்களில் மொத்தம் 40 மாற்றுத்திறனாளிகள் போட்டியிடுகின்றனர். இவர்களில் அதிக அளவாக விழுப்புரம் மாவட்டத்தில் 28 பேர் போட்டியிடுகின்றனர்.
3 ஊராட்சி தலைவர்கள் பதவிக்கும், 1 ஒன்றிய கவுன்சிலர் பதவிக்கும், மீதமுள்ளவர்கள் கிராம ஊராட்சி மன்ற உறுப்பினர் பதவிக்கும் போட்டியிடுகின்றனர். விழுப்புரம் மாவட்டம் உலகலாம்பூண்டி என்கிற ஊராட்சியில் போட்டியிடும் தமிழரசி என்கிற மாற்றுதிறனாளி பெண், வீடு வீடாகச் சென்று வாக்கு சேகரித்து வருகிறார். மாற்றுத்திறனாளி வேட்பாளர்களுக்கு ஆதரவாக சக மாற்றுத்திறனாளிகளும் மூன்று சக்கர வாகனங்களில் சென்று வீதி வீதியாகச் சென்று வாக்கு சேகரித்தது கவனத்தை ஈர்த்தது.
உள்ளாட்சித் தேர்தலில் மாற்றுத் திறனாளிகளுக்கு 5 சதவிகித இட ஒதுக்கீட்டுக்கு சட்டம் கொண்டு வர நடவடிக்கை எடுக்க வேண்டும் என மாற்றுத்திறனாளிகள் கோரிக்கை விடுத்துள்ளனர்.

Villupuram district has the highest number of 28 disabled persons contesting in the local body elections in Tamil Nadu.
In the context of the local government elections being held in 9 districts in Tamil Nadu, people with disabilities have also come forward to contest in this election. Accordingly, a total of 40 transgender people are competing in 9 districts. The highest number of them is 28 in Villupuram district.
3 are contesting for the post of Panchayat Leader, 1 for the post of Union Councilor and the rest for the post of Village Panchayat Member. Tamilarasi, a disabled woman contesting in Ulakalampoondi panchayat in Villupuram district, is going door to door collecting votes. Fellow disabled people in three-wheelers went to the streets and collected votes in support of the disabled candidates.
The disabled have demanded that action be taken to bring in a law for 5 per cent reservation for the disabled in the local elections.
